The Marine Conservation Society are asking for people to report on jellyfish sightings around the coast. Why? well they want to reserch Leather back turtles who feed on the jellyfish but as the turtles are elusive they are concentrating on their food source.
If you would like to help email your details to sue@mcsuk.org Sue will sent you a spotter pack which tells you about the types of jellyfish to look our for.
Gives the kids something else to spot other than Tankers.
Have fun

Re: Done, thanks, nm

Sailing north up the west coast of the Isle of Man quite a few years ago, we saw a basking shark. Another yacht was heading south close by, so we headed towards them to tell them of our sighting but received only quizzical looks. As we continued north we saw another basking shark.....and then another. I think we counted up to 70 and then gave up. No wonder the other yacht looked at us strangely, they must have thought we were mad.

Hi all , Got my pack from MCS today. They dont skimp on info.Did you know you could "adopt a turtle"? I have enough to cope with with 2 children ,2cats,2rodents(guinea pigs)House, cars , boats, hobbies ect , what would i do with a turtle?keep it in the pool ?/forums/images/icons/smile.gif
Seriously its got lots of good info on basking sharks , turtles, jelly fish and the beach survey 2003. Should keep the kids amused if we can spot something and help the MCS to boot. It would be interesting to find out what everyone else has seen around our coast by the end of the season.
Have Fun.
