Unbelievable how it has toppled over quite so far!!

I have often wondered how stable some of these floating cities are, looking at the topsides to hull ratio, and this proves how unseaworthy they may be?!

What was the skipper doing , taking her so close to the shore too, most powerboaters would be eyeing up their depth gauge at that point...:confused:

I think by the time he was anywhere near the rocks he had lost all control. It appears they had a major malfunction after leaving port which left them floundering. They started taking in water and then trying to balance it managed to flip it over the other way, once you have water onboard there's much you can do.

Anyone else thinking the AIS is showing him heading straight for the island , and he is going hard a port to miss it ?

Possible that when he realised that he was going to sink , he got it into shallow water and as near the shore as possible to give everyone best chance of survival ? Bet there'd have been a lot more than 3 dead if it went down in 4000 feet of water.

Theres a bloody big rock stuck in the side of it !!

Yes it was making for shore to ease rescue ...

That's two cruise ship accidents in one week, this one obviously worse.

Told my mother not to read the news today as she is in the Caribbean on a cruise ship ...

Never liked flying by wire. Same for boating by wire. Will be interesting to see if official cause. Top marks to Captain however to do his best to careen the ship.

Recently it looks like the media are leaning towards it being the Captain's fault.
However the BBC are at least still entertaining the idea that it was an accident.

Of course, the company is already shifting the blame as usual.
I have to admit, it is very interesting waiting to see what will be to blame, I find it hard to believe the crew would ignore charts and depth warnings...

Nice company to work for, hey? Throws its employees to the wall before there's even been time to start gathering all the facts. Would never have happened in my day :(

Human error is just that, human. Theres a big difference between negligence and criminal negligence. People make mistakes. Charts have also been known to be wrong. Many of the charts round the Australian coast, for instance , are still largely based on work by Matthew Flinders and some areas round the Northern Territory are almost back of a fag packet stuff.

Would have been several people on bridge duty on a ship that size.

Ahh recognise this ...a lynch mob

It would help the captains case a tad if the rescue services had not spent rather a long time trying to persuade the good captain to go back aboard after he had jumped ship leaving his crew and passengers to fend for themselves.
Many years ago was on a ship when the order was given to prepare to leave due to a serious fire and all power lost.,again in the middle of the night. The scandinavian crew were a model of order and calm.
Venturing down into a smoke filled ship to check all were clear, they found me and the family.
