But unfortunatly MF is not coming. Going on a ferry thingy apparently and stopping in one of those orible hotels, Stalag 13 I think it's called!! Anyway I'm taking the car and a fridge!!, So where do I need to go, what can I see. Duglas marina?? Port St Mary changed much since I took MF's predicessor there?? IOM was crap last time I went, hotels 8quid a night. I'm told it's changed. Well they do seem to charge much more these days. Would it be a suitable new home for M Farter, Strangford is only 30 miles away, then theres the west coast of Scotland, Port Patrick, cant wait to see that again. Irelands fantastic. Is it still free'ish for mooring?? Want to see the Crinnan canal again and Tobermory.....Suppose the ferry trip will have to do for now!!

Nuther thing, this broadband doofer. It's crap. Bloody flashing lights, thold way might have been a bit slower, but at least it worked all the time!!

Good! I'll be down in Plymouth first thing tomorrow and cut those awful ropes connecting MF to pontoon, with the forecast winds she'll end up in IOM sometime during the next week.

Keep yer eyes peeled.........................

Compared to 95 and 98, XP is a huge improvement in almost every dept. It needs enough memory for the task though. 258Mb is nearly a minimum when you take running apps into account. 128Mb is a bare minumum to run the OS. Other than memory constraints, there is almost no reason a new computer like Haydn's would be running slow under XP

I quite agree Brendan. However I'm running on 256mb ram, and I'm not impressed!! I do suspect the processor is slow so i'll upgrade that next!!!

p.s When I was on dial up ,I was getting about 10 hits per day on Zone Alarm firewall , in less than a week on broadband i have had over 36000 hits !!

Re: Snot broadband it\'s yer confuser!!

What are those hits though? I'd guess more than 99.999999% to be innocuous
How often and long were you on line whilst on dial up? Even on dial up, my computer redials, so it's online 24 hours a day. While not static IP, I'm as ready a target as if I were on broadband, but actually get hit very seldom. Most of the hits you are seeing are probably quite normal packets of information being bounced to one of your ports asking for feedback. Quite normal. It depends on how you've got it set up. Just set it so it doesn't alert you all the time, it will take care of any real problems

PS if you are worried about your level of security, just go here
<A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?rh1dkyd2>http://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?rh1dkyd2</A> then hit the common ports button, it will tell you what level of security your firewall is providing. If it comes back with anything less than perfect, let me know what it says, and I'll advise.

Tried the link Brendan and this is what i got.:

"Browser Reload Suppressed
For your security, your web browser's "reload"
function has been temporarily disabled
Allowing a web browser to "reload" a page which has already been sent to you creates a "security hole" that would allow someone using your computer at any later time to attain potentially private and personal information.

To safeguard your privacy we have disabled the browser's "reload" or "refresh" facility while you are in sensitive areas of our web site. Reloading pages will function normally once you have left this area . . . but until then please refrain from "reloading" pages.

You may press your browser's [BACK] button now to return to the page prior to the one you were just viewing.

Thanks very much for your interest and patronage."

Back but is not lit so won't let me go back, and i couldn't find the Common ports button that you spoke about.

Help please!!!! What does this mean???

Re: Snot broadband it\'s yer confuser!!

It's not the confuser. It's the modinium thingy wot keeps flashing, flashing means no bloody signal, I'm sat here like a twerp half the time and when I ring up to get it fixed, I spend all day pressing buttons 132425111111111111 on the phone, then get no where. Also got a panda antiflue thingy that wont register and they want to charge me £££ a minute for tec suport, so I emailed them and told them to fcuk off.

Anyway this is about IOM so stick to the subject in hand.../forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

If yer going to Strangford, how about a visit to "Coney Island" - the place that gave its name to my Windy. Actually, Van Morrison had a hand in naming it as well.
