The marina car park has more than a handful of cars in it for the first time since last year.
Folk are back on their boats and in their holiday houses.
Our Community Council has put up signs on the road into the village.

This from Canna

Happy return to boating to everyone that's able to get back on the water as of recent announcements. The Isle of Canna - Community can finally welcome you to seek anchorage or use our moorings again, however for the moment we're asking visitors not to come ashore. Hope that's understandable and please do get in touch if you have any questions. ⛵⛵⛵ #isleofcanna #respectthedestination

Not sure what to make of this... The infection rate down south is 5 times that of Scotland so I can understand why people aren’t keen on getting close to visitors.

Time is needed for people to get used to it. The SG has only just relaxed the 5 mile rule today. It would be poor show if folks did go ashore and got grief over it. A lot of holiday homes on Canna so it’s a bit hypocritical of them as well as an odd logic. Fill the island with holiday lets and second home owners, but ask a tiny of amount sailors to stay away. Anyway, it’s early days.

Can we please have some balance about the infection rates down South? I live in West Berkshire and there has been one confirmed case since 13th June. If you look at the overall infection rate since March in Scotland compared to England it is remarkably similar per head of population.

Official Gov figures... englandshire consists of more than just BerkShire But I’m sure you know that.

Free to anchor...

And if you use a mooring I’m pretty sure there isn’t a component in the fee to cover the cost of you walking ashore.

I do hope you are not one of the despicable people who sneaks off without paying for a mooring because you think they are poor value for money..after helping yourself to it.

If that's addressed to me it's all wrong, your hopes are realised, I almost never use visitor moorings. I have, and use, an anchor. Since you bring the subject up, please explain what you mean by "the cost of you walking ashore". Personally, I use a dinghy. ?. Maybe you meant "onshore". Is this a common practice, or just something in your imagination?

Fear... There is a lot of it about.

BoJo and the train crash that was Englandshires response to CV-19 was a disaster and has left lots of folk worried about strangers.

Thing is - the fear is there, irrational and illogical, but there.

We decided to be especially cheery and welcoming to strangers. That’ll freak them out more than usual.....

It is how you recognize visitors, by the way the jaw drops in consternation when you offer a cheery greeting.

Overall, yes, but new infections in England are running at around 600 per day and new infections in Scotland are running at about 5 per day. Similarly there are around 150 deaths per day in England and around 2 in Scotland. Basically we have it beaten and the English haven't come close.

It's a while since I've landed there, but doesn't Canna have a donations box for use of the pier? The moorings are CMAL. Considering the colossal subsidies paid my mainlanders to keep the islands going, and by urbanites to keep rural areas like mine going, I don't think any of us in nice places have a leg to stand on if we say that visitors haven't paid for the costs of their visit.

I think you are mistaken about the moorings. They are provide by the Canna community - pay for them in the island shop next to the cafe. CMAL are not involved.

Hence my suggestion in #5, that as the islanders don't want you to venture ashore, you'll have throw your money ashore if you choose to use a visitor mooring.
