Island Harbour

Hi, can anyone tell me if Island Harbour marina on the IOW is open to visitors? I cannot get any telephone response. Also if the restaurant is open? I’m aware there were big problems last September but not sure what the situation is now??

Went to the chandlery a few days ago, the restaurant appeared to be boarded up, chandlery, yard and travelift were working though

Well the marina is operating but is in administration. There are only two marina staff working and they also have to operate the lock, so the phone may not always be answered. The restaurant is definitely closed.

in administration as is the breeze restaurant. if you ring do so in mornings they tend to go home early if nobody about or boats moving. rumour is lock gate problems causing operating time reductions. Folly inn is walkable and open for meals. Shame as its a great place with nice staff

Lock is reduced in opening times. Breeze is closed but still a lovely place to visit. We went last weekend. The lock running gear is not looking the best. Pulley wheels rubber boots have come off and seems metal on metal as they open and close.

Such a shame things aren’t their normal self at IH at the moment. From what I’m hearing it doesn’t look great for the future either which is sad.

Would seem to me ultimately best solution will be a very cheap sale to the boatyard on site Richardsons I recall asap before it all falls apart down there. I cannot see apart from a connected purchaser it offers any opportunities for other marina operators to build out etc. maybe that’s the reason for lack of offers.

sounds about right. we are long gone but #1 son was there yesterday to have boat lifted for clean scrub and survey and said similar.

Richardson's yard is fully operational. The lock needs repairing. I was in for a lift recently and had to wait for divers to clear the lock as they were working on the wheels. Breeze is closed. The facilities are well maintained and cleaned and as long as you can fit the lock times, still good to visit. Times vary with tide and staffing. The Folly down the road is a nice walk and it has been fully refurbished.

I love the place, so very sad to learn of its present situation.

My concern would be getting in and not getting back out - further problems with staffing, or the lock failing to open, or worse it sticks open and all the boats are left high and dry. Is there a sill at the lock entrance ?

However, it was that way a few years ago, so perhaps it can be recovered.
