In these gender fluid times the traditional "She" could perhaps be transitioned to "He"
If in Scotland the boat might decide to self transition without the consent of the owner.

I had a Scottish friend who was of the female inclination who offered to be my friend if I didn’t call my boat she, although it was called Commando, our relationship did not prosper,I think she was a rather thrusting feminist?

I suppose my boat could transition without me noticing as the name ’Muntjak’ is obviously derived from the genus of deer so could be either a hind or buck, but I have always considered her to be female, and I shall continue to think of her as she.

Had the problem in 2003 when we bought a new Morgan as although it is arguably a masculine car it is very pretty. So it was named He-she. Very much ahead of its time!

It varies on context, but the default is she - it's a respect/ tradition thing I think.

I've also been caught out, to my slight embarrassment, giving the dashboard of the car a pat with a "well done old girl"
