To get a true index do we take the "marked length" eg F43 thus 43' or the actual length stem to stern eg 45'3"?? Do we add the length of the Jet Rib too? Please say yes as that makes me a 1.16, or if not a meagre 0.878, please let me be more than a 1 !!! I really have worked hard and done lots of things I shouldn't, just let me be a 1.

OK, OK. Sealine owners get special dispensation as we are constantly having to tell people the real size of our boats. My S23 (ahem 25ft LOA you know /forums/images/icons/wink.gif) gives me a 0.609

Oh, and TCM isn't allowed to convert his metres to feet /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

If you read my previous post then I have an inflatable dingy that gives me a score of 0.163.

I still think is similar to your score when you take your real age.

I don't have time to read all the posts! I had to clean my props and the waterline. Not too much gunge this time only a bit of worm coral and a couple of barnacles plus some slime.
Think I'll go for a blast (in daylight) across the bay, but it's so hot here that I might just go back to watching the 'lympics in our air con surroundings.
As for 0.163 and my age, I could get really personal, but I won't, ços i might need a bed in the RAF Yacht Club sometime in the future.

I suppose that even reading gets slower with age and you be careful blasting across the bay because I hear that eyesight goes as well.

Not that mine has ever been as good as Brendan's because I wish I could see a ping pong ball on the sea during the day, let alone at night!

But that's the whole point. It's actually easier in the dark in those conditions. Sea glassy smooth, and light reflecting off it. You see even small imperfections on the surface of the water. Spotting a bouy or even something smaller in those conditions is much easier than in daylight. Very difficult to describe unless you experience it.

I can't find any pictures that comes close, but imagine this in the dark, but with ambient light from the shore and sky (reflected off clouds) reflecting off the water
