Perhaps I should add "something really fast but in relation to a 40ft vs 70 or 60". I mean I wouldn't expect a similar speed to the Volvo Ocean rocket but let's say instead of the usual 7-8 knots of a typical 40ft something let's say 12-15 knots.

12-15 knots is way above hull speed, so you will have to be planing. Which means very light and a canting keel. Which is not very cruisy.

Needs a light hull yes, but not a canting keel. Those speeds are easily reached by class 40s.

But why is that not cruisy? I hate this idea that cruisy = slow. There are plenty of sailors who have no intention of doing any racing, but who also don't want to plod along at 5 knots.

Show me a 40 that will plane with all the necessities of cruising on board.

One man's necessities are another man's un-necessary indulgences.

The pogo linked to above would almost certainly plane with half full tanks and basic gear for a couple of weeks cruising on board.
