Is it really worth owning a boat in England?

If you want 12 month berthing its £3600 sterling for your size boat but that does include electricity (And water).

However if, like many out, here you want to avoid the really hot summer - you can get a 9 month rate for about £1800 sterling. This covers 15th Sept to 15th June in the water and its a really good deal.

Loads of Brits do it as (to be honest and to cheer up OldGit /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif) its actually too hot here in the high summer and the town gets hellish busy.

Well,all I've read is true. But, whilst acknowledging that the Med. weather can be changeable, bear in mind that you can often use your boat 'all year round'. Winters tend to be mild, and if you keep an eye on the weather you can cruise 365 days of the year! How bad is that, and you get a more out of fixed costs.Plus the area's we cruise to locally are very quite during the week days as we're retired so its great! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

works for me too.
It of course dependes on how far away you live from your boat.
For us 5 hours drive to the boat was a drudge and expensive. We can now be on the boat in the South of France in about 6 hours - and i don't have to drive. It cost us less than the petrol down to Poole, not to mention miles on the car. Yes diesel is more (not for long) but we find mooring is cheaper and so is the wine. The weather is NOT all roses out of season especially, but on average leaves England in its wake.

I for one am pis#ed of with the weather in the UK. Seems I missed all the good weather in April and I've been waiting for it to return since!

I'm on the boat for a week next week and the long range forecast isn't promising for a suntan thats for sure.

Begining to think its not worth living in UK let alone boating. Seriously pi22ed off with current weather. You look forward all winter to nice weekends on yer boat in the sun and then this crap weather is what we have to endure.

Umm what planet is that on then - was going away this weekend but now its 4/5 on saturday and high 7's on Sunday with 50mph gusitng winds ........ weather is complete poo - and I for one now am also seriously pi22ed off too - not had one good weekend this year so far ...... Portugal is seriously tempting. I've visited the Algarve loads over the past couple of years and I know what you mean about the speedy baggage reclaim. £1800 for a berth including electric seems fantastic. Is there much space in Lagos? Do you know what the berthing cost and availability is like in Vilamoura?

There is presently space in Lagos. However they tell me that there are a massive number of UK reservations from "winter 2008". (I wonder why that is!!).
