I think Arg is more frustrated than peeved.
Well, maybe Peeved and Frustrated.
Tiss a fact the UK weather is so unpredictable.
Strange though, We do all seem to think the Summer Hols as kids was continuos Sunshine!
So boating in the UK is iffy ref the weather.
I have this view.
Weather or not I am on the boat at as much as possible and whenever I can.
OK quite often of late it seems it's not fit to go far, or where You intend going.
Tiss still better than Decorating ,Gardening , watching the garbage on the box etc etc.
Plus there alwys seems to be a job to do.
Or feed the ducks or summat!
Coming to the end of a refit with My boat.
So I don't give a monkeys what the weather does, just want to fire Her up and pootle if nowt else!
Have given much thought about parking Her in warmer climes.
Three miles from House to Berth.
So it's no contest really.
Tenner for Targa You stingy Git.
I'll give £15 all Day long!

Sit and read the paper, chat to other people on the pontoon, have a cup of tea, watch whatever I can pick up on the TV or even maybe have a pint or two!Went up river last week for an overnighter, had a good time even if we get get a bet damp!
Sod the weather, get on your boat, life is better when you're afloat /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

If you had a crap product, one that was purely based on bolloxology how long would you last????

Probably quite well. Ask Bill Gates and Alan Sugar. Companies like Microsoft, Virgin Media & EasyJet seem to get by.

As for sportsboat canopies, well that's another story. Do what Djefabs suggests and "Get yourself a proper boat." /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif (flybridge, good in the uk)

Don't worry though, you'll get to make the best of the weather and make your own forecasts. The weather won't improve much but at least you won't get so disappointed. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

See you down there Jez. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Re: It\'s Just Me Moaning !!!

Speaking as one who has taken the plunge and has been living on the Med for the last four years, it ain't too bad you know.
There is a lot to be said for waking up and having good weather most days of the year, being able to say to your mates, okay, meet you at the weekend for a BBQ and knowing that you won't have a problem with the weather.

But remember this, your salaries will drop big style and your working environment will be hugely different from the UK.

But you learn to tighten the belt a bit and you soon realise that you don't need the latest and greatest of everything.

Not taking the pee but I do feel for you guys, okay winter is winter but in the summer it's not unreasonable to expect a bit of sunshine.
The reason I will never come back to the UK, I'm an outdoors person and I need the sun from time to time.

If it helps at all the weather people over here aren't great either but it's the other way around.

The say it's going to rain and it doesn't.

...sorry, I’m not being very helpful...I'll get my coat.

I’m back in a few weeks so if you could get it sorted I’d appreciate it, have to do a bit of work on the outside of the boat.

Looks like you guys have a serious case of "... let's blame the messenger..." syndrome to me.

You can't blame the forecasters for the weather... only forecasting it! Sure, we have all had the bad weather but it isn't their fault so please, get off their backs.

If you fully appreciate just how complex weather forecasting is you wouldn't be so hard on the forecasters. Weather forecasting is not an exact science and they can only work with actual reports, historical data, recent satellite data and some very complex computer models... they do not have a crystal ball!

Sure, they get it wrong but that isn't at all surprising given the complexity. Perhaps what is more surprising is just how right they do get it! In my experience they are pretty good regarding the wider picture but it is near impossible to accurately forcast at a local level as a slight shift in speed or direction can make a huge difference to the weather in any one spot.

A good analogy is where a helium-filled balloon goes when it is released by a kid at a party. You would expect to be able to fairly accurately predict the general direction it will travel and perhaps how long it might be expected to stay airborne for. But would you expect to be able to predict precisely which garden it will land in? Clearly not, and yet that is pretty much what we are expecting our forecasters to do. They get the larger picture mostly right but the smaller the area we ask them to consider the less accurate their forecasts will be and as far as weather systems go the UK is a pretty small area.

Our weather is made even more difficult to predict as our latitude puts us under the temperate low-pressure zone just south of the Arctic High. This is complicated even further by our proximity to the Icelandic Low. In general, migratory lows slow down and intensify in the vicinity of the Icelandic Low which gives us very strong depressions that are incredibly difficult to predict. Then there is the effect of the Gulf Stream which changes its direction and speed daily... need I go on /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

As for the money... how can we even expect them to get any better if we don't fund them?

So, please, don't whinge at the forecasters... just at the weather. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Souwester's and wellies were the least of our worries. About half way thru, we could have done with some bilge pumps and then we had an effing power cut late on which effectively ended proceedings

Re: It\'s Just Me Moaning !!!

Weather wasn't so bad last week - at least in the far South West. This was taken on Thursday:

Plenty of other places to get weather info on line, watch, read,do it yourself.
Doesn't matter what was said about the weather it was going to be bad.
If you know they are full of cr4p stop listening.
Go to your pride and joy , consider it your 'holiday home in the sea" and have fun any way

Why is it then if we all accept the difficulties of predicting the weather and the multitude of variables involved, that we've all got fixxated on "Climate Change" & "Global Warming" if they don't know what factors are going to do today to worlds weather how can they possibly predict what will affect what in the future.

I am told there are as many scientists that disbelieve this bollox as there are believe it, we just never get to see or hear them. Definitely the geologists who have evidence of changes in the rocks etc. dont on the whole buy into the human influence argument ?? Suits governments to spread bollox, as able to tax on it. IMHO of course. P
