It‘a definately bending me, it’s tough to spread things out?
By the time I’ve visited family and friends, (GFlong term is EU citizen) taking as many skiing opportunities as I can it would appear theres not a lot left on the clock?‍♂️
Is there a way to work smarter? Can one just buy an annual pass? Is there any word on the street as to a fix with this Going forward?
We’ve just not had to give it a thought for so long, it’s become so much more than normal but post COVID it’s now starting to really bite, at customs I feel that burning look of “ 1 more trip and you’ll be an illegal immigrant”!

please give me hope…….

No annual pass to Schengen - there are to some individual countries, but only 2 have longer term tourist visas, some require large investments, some have tax implications and most restrict work.

There is some hope though - according to the RYA Brexit Webinar (and some other sources) the EU did offer 6 months with no rolling window and no major checks, provided the UK reciprocated for all EU citizens.

You would end up being taxed to death living in S anyhow .
By comparison the U.K. is a tax haven .
I just want to share my time in S and spend my money where I want to, I’ll pay my tax wherever but but never thought it would get to the stage where I’m an illegal, it’s weird!

My understanding is that EU citizens got 6 months here from the get go but the EU didn’t want to reciprocate because they were being a little punitive towards us to deter others from leaving. To change it would require all EU countries to agree and there seems to be little prospect of that happening at the moment. This is the gist of an MP’s response to a constituent that I saw online a couple of months ago.

It's the other way around EU offered 180 in 365 and the half wits refused it, because they will not have anything EU law related. But UK does allow EU peeps 180 in 365 in the UK. Go figure.........
and yes I am really really really really pi@@ed off about it all - total pain in every respect. Try working out how many days you have stayed in the last 180 on a rolling basis.

For how long are visitors from other "third countries" permitted to remain in Schengen countries without a visa?

Are they allowed more than 90 days at a time?

If she’s got a EU passport you can travel with her when married as a dependant .Enjoying her FoM .

SWMBO holds an Irish passport - does this mean I can travel with her with no restrictions? Been trying to research it online and finding definitive sources is a little tricky.

That’s what I thought but the MPs response laid it at the door of the EU. Like you I am not happy as it has put the kybosh on retirement plans unless SWMBO’s Irish passport allows me to enjoy the same unrestricted travel as her.

Its the same as the UK is now - now we are a third country as well, not some special deserving superior race......sorry should have said spoiler alert!

if your wife has an Irish passport can you get one?

If we moved to the island of Ireland for three years I could apply for citizenship but otherwise no unfortunately. A bit of a standing joke in the family - the kids can get an Irish passport but I can’t!
