Is 90 in 180 hurting you ?

If we moved to the island of Ireland for three years I could apply for citizenship but otherwise no unfortunately. A bit of a standing joke in the family - the kids can get an Irish passport but I can’t!
If I was in that position and work/money permitted - I would move to Ireland. And get the kids to get Irish passports before the opportunity goes.

It won’t go, it is enshrined in legislation and is nothing to do with Brexit -son has one and it is useful as he travels with work. Daughter hasn’t got round to applying yet. I would consider moving over there for a while but SWMBO wouldn’t be keen.

This has prompted further research online and whilst it is all very opaque we did find a Spanish CAB page that says that as long as I am travelling with SWMBO I am not restricted to 90 days. Result!

Apparently this has nothing to do with me but is all about not restricting SWMBO’s freedom of movement by default. Trouble is that many Border staff are unlikely to be aware of this so the advice is to contact embassies in advance.

Retirement aspirations might be back on! ?
.

It's the other way around EU offered 180 in 365 and the half wits refused it, because they will not have anything EU law related. But UK does allow EU peeps 180 in 365 in the UK. Go figure.........
and yes I am really really really really pi@@ed off about it all - total pain in every respect. Try working out how many days you have stayed in the last 180 on a rolling basis.
It’s a chore to work out, it makes my blood boil especially when the days at the back end were days I was in the uk, so the rolling part goes through periods where no days are released back into your pot ?

So the getting married suggestion at #7 isn’t as clear cut as it seems then?

That’s what I thought but the MPs response laid it at the door of the EU. Like you I am not happy as it has put the kybosh on retirement plans unless SWMBO’s Irish passport allows me to enjoy the same unrestricted travel as her.
Yes .
They never split / separate family.
Technically one of you claims dependancy on the other .Doesn’t matter which .
Thus far no border official has ever enquired .

But you must be together , she can’t go over with you then 8ugger off back leaving you alone there .

Use a brain cell ( should have enough left ) and get one of the many Apps .
Enter relevant dates = it’s all done for you .

Thought you are tech savvy ?

“Forty two “ of this parish with the GB in La Napoule got a 6 month long stay visa to summer on his boat .He’s retired too .

So again with a bit of guile and the the ability to be arsed fill a form and travel to a embassy you can get a long stay visa .

If you can’t / won’t marry a EU passport holder.

I was talking to a friend who works in IT Recruitment recently. He said he has had lots of people looking to move from the UK to Ireland for 1-3 year contracts. They all have Irish spouses and are keen to get EU Passports. Some have already moved over and working remotely.
This article was in yesterdays newspaper
Applications from Britons for Irish citizenship soar by almost 1,200% since Brexit

My understanding is that EU citizens got 6 months here from the get go but the EU didn’t want to reciprocate because they were being a little punitive towards us to deter others from leaving. To change it would require all EU countries to agree and there seems to be little prospect of that happening at the moment. This is the gist of an MP’s response to a constituent that I saw online a couple of months ago.

EU citizens can jump through a few hoops and stay for 6 months, EU offer was hoopless, therefore we'd need to remove the hoops.

Only 2 EU countries offer long stay tourist visas, some of the others allow persons who are self supporting to stay for 6 months but most don't allow working age people to do that. Useless for the majority.

So, to
It is a major annoyance but we are using 6 month visa to stay in France for the summer. So have been able to get good summer use of boat as planned.
Well done, how do I go about that? Does it also cover you for the whole S Zone?

It only covers you for the issuing country. France is one of the 2 countries that issue tourist visas, but you have to show you have enough money without requiring to work whilst in France. (If you don't have a prebooked hotel, it's 120 Euros per day)

Who’s the other country, is it Spain? I don’t need to work while I’m in the S zone and sure I’ll meet the self supporting criteria but who I turn to??

I just want to sort it out..

France has the long term visa but friends who have it say you need a French address. Spain gives a golden visa for a e500k property purchase. you and family.

Once in Schengen with your French long term visa you could probably head to Spain etc but this is not strictly speaking allowed ( you still get your 90 in 180 but if you did 130 in 180 in Spain you would probably not get caught but if you did...)

The main thing you generally want to avoid becoming resident ( >182 days) as the tax systems are not understood by us and generally more expensive.

No annual pass to Schengen - there are to some individual countries, but only 2 have longer term tourist visas, some require large investments, some have tax implications and most restrict work.

There is some hope though - according to the RYA Brexit Webinar (and some other sources) the EU did offer 6 months with no rolling window and no major checks, provided the UK reciprocated for all EU citizens.
Thats promising ,
