Forum wisdom says that outboards are cheaper to own than inboard/outdrive boats. Therefore a boat with 6 outboards must be six times cheaper to own. The more you have, the more you save.

The thing is.....we always tell newbies not to be obsessed about fuel costs....because that will be the least of your problems.....but with six big outboards....it gets a bit harder to sound convincing

There are multiple reasons as to why falling off the back of that boat would be a very bad idea.

Many years ago I ran fast catamaran ferries, 35 knot service speed they were on waterjets so low drag with a non operational engine.

The up side was with one engine out of service you could still operate the schedule on 3 engines at about 25 knots.

The downside was with four engines they break down rate was twice as much as two engines.

The difference is that was a commercial operation.

If you have a 6 , 8 , 10 or so engine boat the sole purpose is to show off so running with one lifted or more because it is non operational is likely to be many times more likely than a single, twin etc.

So for leisure boats the sole raison d’etre is to show off you must be really pissed off to find one two or three motors don’t work on the posing day.

Seamless operation is the game.

There is no where to fit an outboard on swift trawler.

How does this work for power output?
My basic understanding is that the second engine will be at half horse power. first engine 100hp + second engine 100hp = 150hp.
