Ok so I have found a number of dehumidifiers like the Meaco DD8L that come in standard models and the model with a filter / ioniser.

I'm trying to find a straight answer if these are worth the extra or if the ioniser is a load of rubbish used as a marketing ploy.

Anyone has experience with one with and then without?

You know how it works in theory the negative ions aid the filter removing dust, pollen, etc and the particles settling out. Some say it makes the air feel fresher. I use mine 24/7 with the ioniser and I am not convinced it makes a huge difference but perhaps the air on board is fresher and healthier to start with!

Can't comment on ioniser but DD8L is great bit of kit, leave it running in forward cabin for dry bedding. Left it running this week on auto mode, with drain pipe in to 25l water tank.

Have a DD8L and can recommend it - we have tried others, slightly cheaper ones from B&Q but this is the DB. Works at low temperature and energy efficient - well it seems that way to us.
Does a great job at home and on the boat.
Fantastic when winter sailing to arrive in a marina and plug it in overnight and it just keeps the whole boat condensation free. Not too noisy either.

Ioniser? No idea.

Yours must have had its polarity wrong then. The dust particles should have stuck to the walls.[/QUOTE

Yes you are right Vic,I should have been clearer... Mrs CH used to hate the things as they covered everything within a couple of feet around them with dust.

I'd go for a separate ioniser rather than a built in one. Reason is that you can use the dehumiddy thingy on its own, and vice versa.

I am a great fan of ionisers, and use the Elanra ones.

You can buy commercial ones, too.

We used to have an ionisor in each of the kids bedrooms when they were small, also one in the living room, this was back in the 80s. My eldest son who was about 4 years old at the time, suffered terribly from asthma and the ionisor helped greatly we believe.
