Having owed OB for almost three years I thought I had long ago found everything the last owner had left for me, which was quite an extensive bonus because sadly he was retiring from boating.

So whilst doing a bit of Spring cleaning at the weekend I found on a shelf in the cabin the following ...

Shell Channel Pilot 3rd edition (getting a bit out of date now I suppose)
MacMillan Yachtsmans Handbook (how to tie a bowline doesn't change)
Old log book from 1992 - 1999 (not comprehensive sadly)
Book of way point locations
Directory of Marina facilities (a bit dated now)
North Brittany Pilot
Idiots guide to use of Radar (definitely needed !)
RNLI Indexed and nicely bound safety manual

Result I felt

we found several packets of blue diamond shaped tablets - no idea what they are for. Apparently the boat previously had a full time female skipper? At least thats what the broker told me she did!
curiously the boat also had a holy water font by the cockpit. "bless me father I am about to sin", followed by "bless me father I have sinned"

I had an S37 for about a year, and when I was cleaning it before handing it over to the new owner I found a big locker at the foot of the aft cabin bed which I didn't know was there, and it had various useful items of chandlery in it.

One one of my old boats the previous owner just walked off it leaving every thing on it.
Pots pans crockery cutlery glasses pillows and cases. Most of it we put in a trolley with a sign saying help yourself free We kept some mugs that were quite nice, still got them 25 odd years ago.

What would be quite amusing, what is the most unusual item that has been left behind by the previous owners?

On a boat I bought in 1998 I found some battery operated 'devices' and a selection of very personal Polaroid photos of the previous owner's girlfriend taken on the boat, all tucked away under the forward berth

when we got or Hardy the best left bits was a complete 5 draw tool box (with tools), anchor ball, rain catching radar reflector, plates & cutlery, full tank of diesel. Worse bits; his old bedding, he had taken both Gaz bottles off the boat, swapped the nice new mooring lines and new set of fenders for some old ones and peeled off the Hamble River licence...

...no polaroids and no rabbits

Many years ago I bought a Princess 435. The boat was a finance house repo so there was an awful lot of the previous owner's stuff on the boat. Anyone who knows the 435 will know that there is a very deep locker aft of the lower dinette behind one of the seat cushions. I had spent weeks fishing stuff out of this locker which was tricky due to my 'heavily muscled' shape as the access hole was very tight. I could see with a torch that there was something pink and plastic tucked into a corner but I just couldn't get at it. Eventually I forced myself through the hole and extricated this object which turned out to be a lifesize sex doll with, ahem, all the appropriate equipment and orifices. As I was married at the time I didn't have much use for this item so I gave it to my stepson for Christmas but he didn't seem to appreciate my generosity for some reason

Some years back the yard I subcontracted to ( won't say the name) but it's an anagram of ****&r imported a few boats from holland and Germany, hence the things found on board were shall we say very colourful if your mind was in that direction

So, if I put up some photos of my finds, then ... (it would only be the reasonable thing to do)

When we bought and took our catamaran from its berth in Howth there were 35 bottles of spirits aboard, mostly unopened. A very welcome part of the inventory. As the previous owner had reputedly owned the biggest off licence in Dublin maybe we should not have been surprised!
