Has anyone had to make a claim with Insure4boats? Reading the reviews some people had a bad experience making a claim. I bought their insurance and now am thinking it might be a mistake.
Thanks

They are a specialist broker in leisure insurance and offer repackaged policies from Travelers who are a large US based insurer. Claims are handled by a third party claims handling specialist. No reason to think their payout policy should be any different from any other reputable insurer, but of course much depends on the wording of the policy and the efficiency of their claims process.

I insured my boat with them, and made a claim this year for an expensive brand new electric outboard that was stolen from my tender on my mooring while we were out for a day sail. I didn't expect them to pay out because the outboard wasn't specifically listed on the policy. They said they didn't have to pay out because the padlock I used to secure the outboard was not an approved type of padlock, but they would pay out anyway and so they did, promptly and painlessly

Can you find any insurance company where nobody has ever had a problem making a claim? Inevitably people make claims they are not covered for and feel aggrieved when not paid out, others are covered but aren’t very good at making claims and providing supporting evidence so again voice their frustrations. People are also much more likely to go public about difficulties than good service.

It does tend to lead to issues when insurers outsource the claims handling-claims decisions are core to insurance business /customer service proposition so insurers lose this technical skill when they follow this route. My advice is look to see where insurers handle claims. Outsourcing ends up with organisations like Crapita becoming involved with all the issues that brings and soaring complaints.

Insure4boats outsource claims to Mac- Marine of Poole.
Just like Crapita and Davies Group they are a Claims Management Company(CMC) .
The Financial Conduct Authority have raised questions on CMC operations in general.
Having looked at Insure4boats "stars" not the 4 or 5 out of 5 but the 1 and 2 out of 5 there are many comments.
Consider asking before purchasing any insurance policy if claims department in house compared to outsource .
