Insurance without survey report.

No, read the requirements for membership - not just paying the money. And one of the requirements is having PI insurance, then look at the requirements to get insurance.

There are, of course people around claiming to be surveyors who would not meet those requirements and may well not be able to get PI. Equally there are well respected and successful surveoyors who do not "belong" to anything.

If you don't know the surveyor then probably less risk to empl oy one who has met the requirements of one of the associations, which is what insurers do.

Seems there are even 'distance learning courses'!

So? Not sufficient for the YDSA if you read their requirements to gain accreditation.

Anyone can call themselves a surveyor, even without taking a structured course of study, so probably better you stick with those that have met the requirements of one of the professional bodies.

My class association have negotiated a "no survey" deal with GJW.
Trouble is GJW have a "no singlehanding, no towing, no being towed" clause for 24ft plus that is rather inhibiting, so I went elsewhere & told them so

That doesn't stop them from repeatedly trying to sell to me though.
