Hi, how long would you expect to wait for an Insurance Valuation Survey Report?
In the past, when I have had a Pre-Purchase Surveys the report has come back within a few days and no problem. I understood that Insurance Survey reports usually come back in 3 to 5 days.
I have had this boat a while and the Insurers require a Valuation Survey – fair enough no problem!
I engaged a local Marine Surveyor based on recommendations both locally and on these forums.
The actual survey was completed and paid for (terms of the contract) over 3 weeks ago, but no report - despite emails and phone calls and lots of promises. If I knew it would take this long I would have had second thoughts.
I am now getting concerned and impatient!
I have had reminders from my Insurance Broker and the renewal date is now getting close and the situation is now critical. My Insurance Broker cannot offer a fully Comprehensive Cover without an up to date Insurance Survey, this in turn violates my Marina’s Terms and Conditions; so more than a minor irritation. I have to say though, the Engineer is really good to deal with and the verbal advice is excellent, just wish the report was forthcoming. I understand and appreciate that the Engineer maybe busy but....
I don’t want to name and shame as that is not my style, but I really could do without the expense of getting another surveyor, but not sure what to do next.

One more letter, recorded delivery, copied on email, setting out the position so far. Then; “If I don’t receive your report by xxxx then I will have no choice but to commence debt recovery action against you with regard to this matter”.

If still no joy sue the b@stard and name and shame.

I actually think that is very poor service. its irrelevant how busy someone is, hes taken payment and only partly completed his part of the bargain. Its be coming more common now. recently Iwent to a lawyer, I was asked for payment before id even walked in. then I paid another £750.00 that night for a letter. Of course I was kept waiting 3 weeks for it. its an abuse. Your surveyor should complete your survey without delay or refund your payment in full.

Check your marina insurance requirements as they are likely only interested in the 3rd party risk element. Comprehensive benefits above 3rd party risks are for your benefit alone.

Hi – Just an update.
I have received the Survey Report so panic over.
It was dated weeks ago and after talking to the Engineer, he said that he had sent the report a number of times previously. My conclusion was that it was a Technical Issue with the email system where BT Yahoo Mail was blocking certain email addresses with attachments.
The moment I used a different email system, the response came through as expected.
I am happy this is all resolved especially as the Engineer is a decent chap.

Surprised that no paper copy was sent.

Glad you're sorted.
Running an emailing list I'm aware that BT's email seems to have mind of its own, delaying some emails for ages, and arbitrarily refusing to deliver mail to some address groups for no apparent reason.
