I have a solid little grp cruiser built in the 1970's but upgraded with a new engine and all restored to nice condition. When I go to insure it, I am having difficulty due to its age. Craft insure, who I have used in the past, only ensure boats up to 40 years old. Insure4boats won't insure a boat of this age for coastal use, even though that is what it is designed for and is perfectly capable of dealing with it.
The other thing seems to be the requirement for a full survey. I do sort of get this, but the boat only has a value of 3-4K, so paying 10% of this every few years seems a bit extreme, particularly as I know that the boat is in tip top condition.
So, the question is: are there any easier-to-deal-with insurance companies that will insure the boat for its intended purpose using either photographic evidence of its condition, or allowing me to self certify?
I know I could go third party, but I keep it on a trailer and am most concerned about theft, rather than an on-the-water claim.
