My current insurer, who is part of the RIPE group, has offered renewal but at around 20% increase from last year's premium.

Porthcawl Insurance is mentioned here from time to time so I contacted them for a quote which came back commendably quickly.

Having indicated I'd have not so far made a claim in 20+ years of continous yacht insurance they have applied a reasonably substantial no-claims discount but are asking for proof of that such a discount was applied by my previous insurer along with the usual qualification seen in motor insurance policies that this must be less than two years old.

I don't recall ever being given proof of no claims on any insurance policies outside of motor insurance and similarly I think this is the first time I have been asked for such proof outside of the same.

Before I go back to them something similar has anyone resolved this successfully?

If the cover is less than 14 days old you can get a refund IIRC. I'd do that and pick the next best quote.

I doubt the discount requires proof for the full 20 years. Can you not just ask Ripe for confirmation that you've not had a claim for whatever period you've been with them and see if that will satisfy the new insurer.

Doesn’t your yearly bill state x% no claim discount? I think mine does. That should be sufficient proof.

My insurance cover note from Haven Knox Johnston lists the years of no claims towards the end of the document. Have you checked your current paperwork carefully (if got electronically as a PDF, a text search may be fastest)
