Under written by AXA
Yes indeed, there is no doubting the blue chip creditworthiness of the underwriter. That ain't the problem. The problem is the wording of their policy and their unreasonable/aggressive (imho) invoking of the policy exclusions. No sense going into detail here - you have people's view and need to make your own mind up

Craftinsure. Quick free online quote. Always been helpful but no claim experience. They did send me a cheque to backdate a discount when they found out i'd passed my YM so seem honourable.

The policy wording looks quite good. Considerable better, in my opinion, than Haven knox Johnston and the Bluefin/Axa/BishopSkinner/towergate group. Underwriter is Zurich Insurance, =blue chip

Talking of Zurich, I've always insured with Navigators & General. Can't remember why I picked them in the first place but the policy seems to do what I want (e.g. single-handed use) and, touching wood furiously, I haven't had to test their approach in the cold heat of a major claim.

I have moved from GJW to Traffords and saved £200 for better cover. Worth a thought.

Has anyone else used Traffords? I've just received a quote which is over one third less than GJW whom I've been with for many years.
The policy wording appears to be OK but just wanted to get some views from others.

ok some good reading so far, I have now had another spanner thrown into the works

I have had a quote of colemans insurance from poole I think, this is the company that insures all the dean and reddyhoff marinas and they have offered me a very good quote as we are in dean and reddyhoff Weymouth

so has anyone had anything to do with this company good or bad

thanks again

Shawn, I am currently insured through them to Amlin. Only been with them a couple of months, so no experience of what happens if anything goes wrong. I know someone else who has been with them for years, and very happy.

cheers paul

I am going to stick with GJW as they seem to have a very good presence on here and they are only £50 more expensive so I will feel better using them

thanks for all the help from everyone in helping me decide

We are currently with Bishop Skinner marine, RYA/RNLI offshore members boat insurance ,I note that our policy is with AXA, but does mention underwriting by Towergate marine ,after reading comments on here regarding Towergate wondering if we should change as just in process of renewing ,anyone got any experience with Bishop skinner, had a quote from GJW and there's nothing in it, any comments most welcome good or bad:)

Hi Merlyn have you tried Pantaenuis www.pantaenius.co.uk as there policy is very comprehensive and is excellent value for the cover given. I will email a copy of there policy t&c's

Bishop Skinner and Towergate are the same group. I wish you much luck should you ever need to make a claim...

Just to correct JFM -Bishop Skinner are a trading name of Bluefin Insurance Service Ltd and are most certainly NOT the same group as Towergate.
They do have a trading relationship with Towergate, but also place policies with Navigators and General, HKJ, and other leading yacht insurance markets.

Thanks Terry unfortunately for us they insist on the boat having a survey as over ten years old, as she has just gone back into the water, and have no idea how much an insurance survey would cost, looks like we shall have to stay with our original brokers, I fully understand the benefits of the survey as to there policy .
