Had planned to get someone to supply and fit our new combined ST40 Depth/Log from Raymarine but was told today it would take 6 weeks till he could do it

Convinced as I am that Summer is around the corner have decided I really cannot wait that long - am I crazy to think I can fit this myself - I am far from DIY competent but there is already one hole in the hull from the previous log although that was not Raymarine

How hard is it to do, to fit to batteries and does anyone have any idea if the kit allows a fitting for the depth that does not require me drilling a hole - that would definitely be a step too far for me!!

Thanks

u will need to drill a hole possibly 32 > 40 m/m.
its quite easy their must be somebody around your boatyard / club who could advise or help.
the electricial connection must be "fused" & connected to a switch panel rather than the batteries.
the raymarine depth transducer is a "puck" that is bonded to the hull on the inside with the epoxy provided
good luck

Why is that then??

(do not suppose you or anyone know if the hole for the NASA log which we have taken out would be the same size as the Raymarine - am starting to panic and will not get to the boat til Saturday and supposed to be launched next week)

The \"bi data\" combined log / depth instrument?

Just doing the same.....

Log requires a 2" diameter hole - bigger than the Seafarer it replaced - screw a piece of wood across the old backing pad to guide the hole-saw (waddayamean you haven't got one ?!?) and drill through all. I then removed the old backing pad as it was plywood, and the Raymarine instructions specifically state not to use one (risk of wood swelling & cracking the fitting).

I bought at LIBS, and was a bit taken aback when I opened the box to find a through-hull depth transducer - also 2" diameter hole. Haven't drilled hole to mount the instrument, yet - this is 2.25", but hidden by the instrument, and therefore intend to use jigsaw.

Connection to the electrics requires switch, fuse, etc. as mentioned by others. I'm re-wiring, anyway, so no problems.

I find the menu structure of the ST40 extremely poor - not at all intuitive (I see a lot of control instrument menus in work - the ST40 isn't like any of them, but hopefully once set up, I can leave it alone). The alternative (NASA Duet) lets itself down by not allowing you to display depth below waterline (i.e. negative keel offset).

The instructions that come with it are OK - Open The Box.....!

Re: The \"bi data\" combined log / depth instrument?

Well that answers it for me - get a wee man to do it for me

Can anyone recommend anyone at Kip who can do this - not the electrics people as they were the ones who said to wait 6 weeks - to be fair they were apparently busy on lifeboats whose need is more important I am forced to admit!! Am supposed to be picking up the instrument on Saturday so will see inside the box then but confidence not high!
