I have to confess to owning the latest copy of Yachting World. In it there is an article about how well the RYA has been managing the Olympic Team and appraising the reader of the structure and the success that has come as a result. It's a well written piece and accurate. Rod Carr is credited with much as is John Darbyshire and Stephen Park and quite rightly as they have done some really good work.
What I suppose saddened me was that it was one of the sailors - Ben Ainslie in fact - who mentioned that none of this would have happened if it had not been for the work put in over around 20 years of Jim Saltonstall. Shame that the RYA couldn't have acknowledged this.
Its a funny old world isn't it when Jim's former colleagues seem to lack the ability, decency, respect - call it what you will - to give credit and praise - in public - where it is due. It wouldn't have cost much, would it?
We don't leave much of a hole when we go do we?
Rant over.
