I used a piece of pipe (like the diagram) and olive oil. I couldn't get the plastic pipe to hold on the hull with Araladite(which was recommended by Clipper) and as I was running out of time -and tide - I hit upon a bodge which has worked very well. I bedded the pipe onto some marine sealant and while it was still tacky I painted a circle of resin with hardener gently round the base of the pipe and pressed some fibre glass matting into the surplus mastic and the resin. I then dabbed resin onto the matting with a paint brush. After about an hour then whole thing had set hard and it hasn't leaked at all in seven months - it's had a couple of knocks and stood firm. Probably not ideal to mix mastic and fibreglass but the end result is a working transducer.

Ive had three sounders, all which went through hull. The first one - a seafarer rotating type was fitted in two boats and used the oil bath method and very successful both at sea and inland.

The second was a an American fishfinder glued directly to the inside of the hull. This was moved to two boats.

Finally an Eagle fishfinder with a transponder designed for Transom or internal mounting. This has recently been moved to my latest boat and glued to the inside of the hull using a two part epoxt adhesive. Easy to fit so that it sits vertically

It works ...

Standard in-hull transducer tube .... basically a piece of plastic pipe. Cut end to suit hull inner contour and bring tube vertical.
Glass in tube to position and allow to cure / set.

Pour small amount ..... normal about 200 ml's castor oil into tube and then push transducer down into tube ..... it takes time for oil to squeeze past tranducer and allow it to sit down at bottom. Let the oil lose its air bubbles - takes up to an hour !! and then switch on .... you should have a depth reading.

The above of course assumes that boat is GRP ?
