Whilst we are showing knowledge of stuff that we ought to have learned on Yachtmaster courses…how many know this one?

It’s the IMO Resolution that does away with the need to carry “original” paper documents, and it is now fully implemented by the MCA.

So the next time some official asks for a Certificate of Registration, an insurance policy or a certificate of competency, show them this.

😉

In the words of one of my colleagues this morning as we went about replacing the entire paper trail of a fleet of container ships and adding the IMO CII (“Carbon Intensity Indicator”) and the EU ETS (“Emissions Trading Scheme”) to the pile for Monday, “This is great!”😊

So does anybody know precisely this could be applied to yachts? It doesn’t just say you don’t need to carry paper documents, but rather that you need to have “electronic certificates” which are managed in a specific way.
I suspect an electronic PDF held on your phone may not qualify? Or will it?

If there is enough interest I’ll ask my friends at the MCA (my “day job” is British flag and Lloyds Register).

Its an IMO notice and would apply to IMO ships that are vessels over 300 gw and as my yacht is less that that I don't have any association with the IMO

I would also consider that a clearance into some remote port/anchorage would not even have a computer let alone know what IMO is

Also consider local laws /regulations may override any IMO recommendations
