If a Fortress anchor is so good.....

That seems to be the general view. Or a large grapnel-type. You can get very large (50kg) ones and fix them to the pushpit somewhere. Not as a kedge but a 'lifesaver' when you simply must anchor and ride out some nasty weather. I have been tempted but it is so inconvenient - bet I'll regret it one day. But you can't have everything.

***BUT BEWARE*** One of the big benefits of a light Danforth is ease of carrying; if it is sharp(ened) you might cut yourself.

Is Health and Safety aware??? NO ??????? Time for a review into anchor handling and associated risks. Courses to be attended. Exams to be taken. Certificates to be issued. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I have a Guardian that I bought from Compass. Absolutely wonderful, never dragged, never missed holding. In the East Coast mud of course it is easy.

IMHO there is more danger to the ship from the skipper being confined to his bunk with a pulled back from heaving the old cast steel anchor about than there is from the remote chance that the Guardian anchor will drag or not set.

Just my experience of course but I use one and it has not let me down.

I have a Frortess FX16 on my Moody 33 which I've used as a kedge/lunch hook with rope only in East Coast mud and it digs in really well - on the other hand so does my main pattern 35lb CQR BUT the Fortress is so light it's a pleasure to use it.
