Having recently 'upped' to 11 metres, I'm already wondering if my logic was sound. Several postings mention the difficulty (and expence) in securing summer berths in the Western Med for anything over 10 metres. (with seemingly no problem for under that length) My previous boat (now for sale) a Halcyon CLIPPER 27 had good accomodation for her length (six 6'2" berths if you include the two saloon fold outs) and after much refitting was almost exactly the way I wanted her - yawl rig, auto pilot, self steering, all the cruising bells and whistles BUT my wife complained she was too small. (we do have three growing kids -but they never commented on a lack of space) Any advice on inexpensive moorings where an 11 metre boat my be safely left for several weeks in the summer on Spanish/French coasts or Balearics? Also if you're interested in the Clipper for sale check out www.billdick.btinternet.co.uk

I don't know in France, but in Spain (Costa Brava), there is a wayting list in almost all harbours that can berth a 11 meters. They only accept reservations if it is for al least 1 month, and it is not cheap (about 900 €/month). I was looking for the same for this summer (I looked in Sant Feliu, Palamos, L'Estartit), and they were full. The only way was going as a transit, and then book for the days I wanted to be there (which is still more expensive). Unfortunatelly, I broke my leg about 7 weeks ago, so I had to give up my holiday plans. If you want the telephone numbers & details of those harbours, I can provide them to you.

As far as I know, in Balearic Islands, the problem is still worse than in La Costa Brava.

Regards,

Miquel.

Unethical tho it may sound, lie! Cinnamon's a Fairline Targa 33 - 35' LOA. Had terrible trouble in France - as soon as "onze metres" became "dix metres, vingt" (10.2m) berths magically appeared... normally helped by my offer to pay for 11 metres if they didn't do "fractions"

This was while we were cruising and radioing ahead for a berth... needs must!
