I think I\'ve chosen the right boat

I started looking out for flybridge cruisers but wifey doesnt like it up top. Us sailors like to be close to the sea.

Have a look at my short list.

Doral330se. Advantage having shafts but i dont like the ceramic electric cooker. Are shaft drives worth a lot?

Top of list, we just liked it so much at the boat show Targa 34.

It has out drives, is this a major problem? Probably look for a 2 to 3 year old one.

Sealine 34. Nice interior, suits our needs. I liked the style of the boat. I think the Targa is more popular in the motor boat world. What do you think?

Both are very differant , so the best advise is try them. I have helmed both, you need to work out what you want the boat for and then decide.
The Sealine F34 is a new boat , I believe there is a 4- 6 month wait on them a moment.
good luck.

Judith doesn't like it up top. We would go for the S34 sports cruiser not the flybridge jobbie. I looked over the F34 at the boat show and quite liked it. We both decided that being that high up is not for us yet.

Are you talking Fairline Targa or proper (Botnia) Targa here. As an ex raggie I would expect you to choose the latter. Don't you like other real boats such as Nelsons,Aquastars,Seawards, Nimbus', all of which normally appeal to ex real sailors ?

Re: I think I\'ve chosen the right boat

Well it's obvious that I prefer sports cruisers to flybridge and it seems you are now looking at a similar choice as I did a year or so ago.

For me it was Fairline Targa 37 vs Sealine S37 -

Fairline Targa 37: Probably a better seaboat with a longer waterline length and very good looking but accomodation not its strong point when you have three kids

Sealine S37: Fantastic accomodation, easily the roomiest in its class, with some question marks over build quality but cheaper as a result

Incidently on the "being an ex raggie" front, I used to sail alot (never owned but chartered) and I have never understood the assumption that ex raggies would want a semi displacment motor cruiser with lots of wood. The main thing for me is being outside and I thinks that's why I like sports cruisers and of course I couldn't afford a Nelson !

Both Targa and Sealine 37's excellent boats. Don't agree about suspect build quality on Sealine. There seems to be an unshakable myth on this one probably because they are built in Kidderminster and not on the south coast. I think the Targa is slimmer and faster against more beam on the Sealine hence a bit more room and in consequence less speed, but still 34knots is ok for me.
Suggest trying to push the finances to a 37 I think you will wish in the future that you had.
best of luck

Re: I think I\'ve chosen the right boat

Having looked at your posts re: canopies, flybridge vs sportscruiser, shafts vs outdrives, I think one or two of us have been through the similar thought process. If you can afford the doral on shafts, then I would go for that. We saw one at the boat show a couple of years ago, fell in love with it, but could'nt afford it. We got the SS Portofino 34 on outdrives (still subject of my dated website), but it was always a pig to park on twin outdrives with no bowthruster. Outdrive servicing is expensive, and with four props to look out for at £250 a time...
I've got the v40 on shafts now - parking is a dream. I often take it out on my own. SWMBO turns down help at marinas when we visit or return - a more stressful part of the experience more or less removed!
We had the same concerns about canvas moving from the hardtop - but you do stay dry.
Hope this helps.
