Maybe, maybe not. The OED prefers 'thank you' as the noun, but accepts 'thank-you'; no mention of 'thankyou'. Personally, I'm not that bothered, since there's no doubt about the meaning and nothing much has been lost. I do find myself objecting to the the likes of the merging of infer and imply, because they deny those of us who can be bothered a little precision. Some dictionaries have given up the unequal battle and accept them as synonyms (but not, yet, the good old OED).

Not nautical, but I used to work for a very cleverly named American company called 'Segue'.

One of those words that if you hear it, you can't spell and and if you see it you can't pronounce it.

All very good - until it comes to getting the company name out there! Funnily enough, they do not exist any more.
