On the other hand........
I think it would be nice if this thread could get back on track discussing the original issue. On the other hand, the current drift is actually demonstrating the very reason for my initial remarks/proposal. Hmmm......bit of a quandary here....let it carry on drifting in which case real issue gets lost or start new thread to get back on track?

Unlike some here I need to work occasionally to earn a crust. My humble apologies if you thought I'd deserted the ring but I thought fatipa was making a good fist of fighting my corner. Delighted to hear from him of course....represents a 100% increase in membership of my campaign team and clearly makes a nonsense of wakeup's claims that I'm a minority of One......what he doesnt realise is that I am THE one, not just any old one.
As for a name for this new lunatic bin I've already christened it the Boaters Lounge......stop worrying about what to call the bloody thing and get on with discussing the principle.....why not a trial run and an announcement on the other fora to let em know wots going on?

My latest thought is...
...that we could run a trial in the section of the forums devoted to non-boaty matters. Furthermore to lend it a bit of gravitas (codespeak for hiding it away from sensitive eyes) I could set it up on the basis that registered users were the only ones to see it, let alone use it.
Few things first though:
a) it would have to be the home for non-boaty stuff only, such as general humour, political rants and so on. If I thought it was simply sucking the boaty stuff up because people were too lazy to post in right places then it would go;
b) there would still have to be some rules that would, for example, mean that abuse and libel considerations were still observed;
c) cannot do it until we've made one of our scripts a bit more functional. Working on that now.

Like the interspersions/thread drift (on MY OWN threads too)...not as if there's thousands of threads a day is it? Go away for a week and no more than 100 active threads. No, dilution will reduce the value the whole place IMHO...
