Ok as macnorton said it's the rubbish that collects that's the issue. The tide dose not turn on a non tidal river to clear the line basically by the time your anchor line gets a couple of willow trees a park bench and some chaps fence caught on it you are buggered no matter how big or whatever bloody anchor you use . This is not anchoring overnight this is so far for nearly 2 months

Had to clear a bit of tree from under my sterndrives today, I knew it was there because I played an "A" on the bowlines!

What a horrible sight and pretty much how I was expecting to find Cuchilo a few weeks ago . I still don't know how she ended up where she did , it must have been a lucky gust of wind .
I feel so sorry for the owners as the thoughts of what to do now are horrible and a massive worry . I know there is nothing you can do now but you still have to deal with the mess at some point .

I'm going to suggest that that boat is actually lodged on the overspill rather than in front of the main weir gates.

Look at the fish pass winding gear just to the right of the boat , the fish pass at BW is on the top of the overspill ( behind the work barge with the reddish deck in the google map photo )

This is good news as the amount of water it is obstructing is minimal compared to if it was across a main gate. Should make recovery easier when the time comes too.
