So where do you start next.....

What do brokers charge to sell... Is it. Fixed price or a slice off the top. I realise very little is moving at the moment...

Then, i have the issue of finding a replacement.
I have no problem doing the work required, as long as the price reflects what i pay. As it did with my current boat..
I have jotted down notes that plus and minus of my current boat, and although i do not have the experience of some of you more hardened vets out there, i am going to look for something a little newer and bigger, but still open cockpit.

On that note.....
I have looked at lots and lots of adverts, and will be sticking with sunseeker, as i think i can get best bang for my buck, with a mid 90s sport cruiser of that sort of age.
Again, sticking with shaft drive.

Does anyone have experience with any of the following
Sunseeker mustique 42
Sunseeker camargue... Either 44, 46, or 47 foot
All have two cabins, the 46 being an aft cabin, which has ladders down, so is dificult to access for anyone slightly infirm.... Or pissed in my case :)

Motors range from volvo tam d 74 @480 hp
Detroits from 485 bhp up to 6v92 @565
To cat 3208 @435

Still my favourite on looks is the mustique,
The camargue 44 is probably a little too new for my budget that i have, and the 47 or 50 even is too big for me....

Any others i should consider or look at....

I love the c 44, keep away from any of the detroits I know alf will be at me but all the ones in the sunseekers seem to need massive bucks spending on them and resale is very hard. A local marina to me bough one for stock, it took three years to sell it!!

Thats the 46 out then..... I believe that only came with detroits.

(We had dd on a multicat i worked on in kazakhstan... And it never ever missed a beat)
If the price is being hammered because it has DD, i would take that as a bonus, although its a double edged sword...

Would that be the way they have been treated do you think, or lack of service???

It came with MAN engines as well in 510hp

DD's are for keeps !! won't make money if selling soon.....

Buy boat with DD's, but if you plan to sell soon, do so at a price which means engines needs to go out and be replaced ... If for keeps, enjoy !!!

Its ok Alf. I have not mentally blocked DD.

Where did they get such a bad rep from though.....

And in any case... I would almost certainly think the 46 is off my list, because of access to the aft cabin. (But if the price was right )
Nice boat otherwise.
I couldn't expect my parents to climb down there.... Actually, my dad would enjoy it....

still open cockpit

Why open cockpit? I remember the bad weather last month and imagine it isn't much fun 'living' in a boat during that. If you had a flybridge, it's a lot more habitable when the weather is bad. I just want to get your thoughts on it. What do you get from an open cockpit boat that you don't get from a fly? (it's like the reverse question from the other thread asking about the downsides of a flybridge boat)

Fair question. Yes, and i have gone through this in my head too...
I love been outside, and during the winter said i would buy a flybridge... As was more suited to year round use...
There was only once or twice i thought sod this.... It's living in glorified tent... But, when the suns out, i dont think you can beat it....
Its all a compromise, and also, with mine having an aft cabin, you realise it more with bed weather, as sitting under the covers more.
I am looking for a boat with minimum two fixed permanent cabins... And a saloon area. Which will make a massive difference to comfort onboard. Especially storage space.
Its all a bit of a compromise.....

I think flybridges are superb.... But... I am hoping for a few good years outside yet :)
And since i have bought my boat.... In my time off work, i have spent longer on board than at home... :D

Actually.... And i dont know why.... A big reason is sunseekers still tickle the parts others cant reach.... I suppose its a bit aston martin like for me.... Astons are stunning... But i know there are far better cars out there....

What's wrong with buying a SS With Detroits? Seems like a good combination to me and better than MANS and Volvos.
Any body who turns away from a boat with DD's needs to learn a lot about boats

Learning process involves unsociable smoke and noise, oil leaks but most of all learning to have deep pockets.......6V92 will have around 24% worse fuel consumption than equivalent four stroke in that power node, which is very reason why re-power grants exist in U.S. They are also heavy for their specific power output (500/600hp) 6V92 is about tonne and a half.

DD powered vessel is for the enthusiast with deep pockets, all this stuff is well understood by the market, hence reflected value.

Interesting arguments both for and against DDs. I have a pair of 6V53s in my Travado 40, start on the button and don't miss a beat. As discussed they are a bit more thirsty but when you really think about it fuel is always going to be expensive and it may just make you think about cruising plans a bit more. Not many people do more than say 40 or 50 hours a year and of that a large percentage will be at just over tick over going in and out of harbours, rivers, marinas. If you run them flat out they will guzzle, back off to 70% and they are much better.
Several Mustiques around with DDs offer excellent value, we have one locally in Poole that's been for sale for ever, just dropped the price to something more manageable. Travado, Rapallos, early San Remos all offer loads of boat for the money and with a bit of selective updating can be really nice long term keepers.
Both Travado and Camargue 46 share the down the ladder back cabins behind the engine room but there is a benefit in that they offer total privacy, both with en-suite heads.
Camargue 47 and 44 have the aft cabin under the cockpit with en-suite and restricted headroom. Of course they look a lot newer with swoopy styling and curved screens. But beware the early curved screens are acrylic so craze. The flat screens were glass. Later curved screens came from Trend and went into glass.
A dilemma !

Any personal experience or just hearsay?
