Having lost a bildge plate on my colvic watson am considering removing the other and fit beaching legs for when I want to take the ground any suggestions please
it's easier if you post on only one forum, otherwise people get confused as to where to make a reply.
I asked previously how the bilge keels were attached and don't think there's been any detailed reply.
If you lose one keel, there's a reasonable chance that a similar failure of attachment will occur on the other. Have a look at how the the other bilge keel is attched and let us know please.
Bilge keels are handy, and on the CW do reduce the rolling quite a bit; this in turn makes the boat easier to control in a seaway.
Yacht legs are a pain to store on board, and not very quick to rig,and expensive. There are pros and cons for both legs and keels, depending on the type and configuration of the ground you are going to take.
I'd stick with bilge keels - properly attached. You can always rig a temporary leg with a spar, if needed.
