I hate cats. Do you have one for sale?

Could we move this to the Lounge - then it can get really silly. It is a JOKE! How we have gone from metaphorical cat-kicking to not upsetting people who's babies have died is beyond me..... Some people need to get out more!

I really do hate cats. Not the ones that pretend to be boats but the ferrule, furry, fleabag type. A complete waste of DNA but lately we have been discussing where we can buy one every couple of days.

You see, when servicing the engine or doing some other frustrating task you need something to swear at and kick. We think two days would be about right to keep one as after that they would know when you are looking for something to kick and do a runner.

What makes matters worse is another boat with cats aboard lets them roam freely. Now I understand a bit of freedom but our boat is out of bounds. They have started using the boat next door as their personal toilet. They wouldn't even read the forums and consider doing the “bucket and chuck” it thing.. They just leave it on the deck for others.

I caught one of them parading along our deck yesterday. I was going to do an experiment and see which way up it landed when dropped from the spreaders into the sea but unfortunately the owner was there so I had to throw it onto the pontoon instead.

So, if anyone has any Kicking cats out there.. please let us know.

(No animals apart from cats were harmed during the construction of this post. All dissections were made for experimental purposes to aide my curiosity)

Mark you are a nasty person for making such posts & not considering those of a more sensitive nature :D

Thought I had a good understanding of humans but some folk are just beyond me. :D

Keeping something that is not your is "stealing by finding".

The cats deposits should be returned to their owners. Personally I would smear the residue on their steering wheel/tiller so they have a constant reminder of the things they love the most.

On a serious note

Recent BBC report stated that 1000 people die each year from asthma and a further 2m are at risk. I have a small allergy to some cats. When I met my Wife 23 yrs ago she had a cat but I quickly realised that she was allergic to this cat (I was not). Had to find a new home for the cat.

My Son has recently got 3 cats. While babysitting for the weekend my wife developed asthma (first ever attack). Her condition deteriorated and I called the NHS help line. Response was good and after they briefly spoke to wife they got a paramedic to house in 5mins. After 30 mins on oxygen and ventaline (spell?) SWMBO was carted off to hospital. IIRC on admission she had only 15% lung capacity and that after 30min of treatment. 2 months late she is slowly recovering and is now at 50% lung capacity.

At that time I just thought it was a bit of allergic reaction sneezing and wheezing and was not aware of the seriousness of the situation! Dr has now read wife the riot act to run from any house/room where she is in close proximity of cats as she is at serious risk of dying from Asthma. Warning - small pet cats can kill as well!!

When I wrote this I was annoyed.

I totally I don't like cats but I am also probably more annoyed at their owners who let them onto a locked pontoon knowing they are going to defecate somewhere.

It is not going to be in the water so it will either be on someone else's boat or the pontoon itself. There are young children on the boats around and I am sure you wouldn't want your child playing with it, nor would you want to return to your boat to find it smelling of cat pee and parcels left all over.

OK, I may have written it differently but one thing most humans have is a sense of humour. You don't see cats telling jokes or going to the comedy store on a Friday night. It is what makes us different. I think you would be very hard pushed to say you read this post and honestly believed I was asking you to give me your cat so I could kick it for two days?

I apologise if I have offended anybody and will say I do not believing harming animals (although there would be human exceptions).

Nobody should try anything I may have alluded to.

I still don't like cats but none have been harmed in the making of this thread.

Met someone once who lived with their cat (as in furry, 4 legged thing) onboard - the poor thing was seasick constantly, and the poor crew had the job of clearing it up (to me, that is another form of animal cruelty!)...the dog, funnily enough coped fine.

I suggest you check the origins of the phrase "like herding cats". The little feckers go where they like and there is nothing anyone can do to stop them except get a bigger, more agressive cat that will then protect its territory. Not much help, but at least then it's your own cat.

...Couldn't they just get a sodding litter tray?!
I have a litter tray for my cat but he never uses it and will hold it in until he gets outside. He's completely determined in that and will yowl at me ceaselessly until I let him out. But if I take him to my parents house while I stay there, he will always use the litter tray, even if he has open access to the great outdoors. They are funny, determined creatures, cats.

A friends cat, Mouse, fell in once, possibly while defecating into the harbour. Possibly a little short-sightedly, I leapt to the cats rescue and reached down to pull him out... Unfortunately his claws found a very good purchase, my hand, followed by most of my anatomy until he was ashore.

Said cat also had a habit of leaping from the dockside, directly through 'his' open porthole, into the saloon. This worked fine for years until one day the saloon got a bit drafty...

As well as keeping other cats off, a cat may also keep the ****e hawks at bay.

Cute. Does he ever fall in ?

Not so far but early days. They do have life jackets but it was a calm day. We are taking them with us for the "Big Trip" and some more photos here here if you click on the cat pics (Warning Nosto Do not click :) ) . But a friend told me of two ships cats called Splish and Splosh so I suppose it is inevitable....

Life jackets for cats! That's priceless! Do they have oilies, boots and EPIRBs too?

Seems odd as they swim well, and some even enjoy it.
