Having exuded the wonderous virtues to all who visited my boat of my dehumidifier (I even recall saying to people that its so dry in here now...) it now transpires that the wretched thing has NEVER worked and just worded away (sound effects as the distributor told me).

It is now being collected and a refund plus I hope some compensation to come my way.

Just feel a bit of a prat now.....

At least it shows that my boat has got good ventilation and as one forumite told me I must have been dehumidifing the planet which may explain the dry winter.

Anyway who needs the things?

Yours a bit sheepishly

Nick

STOP PRESS the good folk from Force 4 have been very nice about things and have come to a very fair arrangement with me. Good customer service in my view.

Re: twonk!

but surely the dehum wd have chucked some water out which you could see, no? Some of them have a hosepipe and a continer thing.

Also, i think the correct spelling is "berk". "Burke" alludes to "burke and hare" the scottish bodysnatchers whose descendents still prowl these forums

Spelling Lesson

You're right about "berk". It's rhyming slang and, at the risk of being Kimmerised, is an abbreviation of the collective name for a gang of horse-bourne fox-chasing folk in red jackets, from Berkshire.

Getting back on-message, I have often wondered if you really need a dehumidifier in the balmy South, especially if you take all the upholstery off the boat (bit of a problem if you keep her in commission, of course). We've had the boat out of the water since the end of October, with the engine winterised, no heater or dehumidifier and she's as dry as a bone, no mould, condensation etc. I get down most weekends to open the hatches for a while but that's it. The fact that she's a 22 footer with a cuddy and not much else, might have something to do with it of course...............

It's interesting what I learn on here.

When did someone discover that this wonderful piece of equipment (that has been taking up room in my galley) has not been working?
