I don\'t usually do this but.....(nb)

..........I am bl**dy livid.
Had an idea last year to seek Planning Permission for a 2nd property in the garden. (Ok,yes, I am fortunate to have the space but forgive me for it please!!)
Do the right thing, get the Planning Officer involved, check it out etc, etc.
Planning Officer mentions access but concludes it should not be a problem, she will check it out.
I get written record of meeting in which she discusses access but says absolutely nothing about trees.
Last week I got served a preservation order on 3 trees in the garden.
I phoned the Preservation people and asked how this came about. The reply was they were tipped off by the Planning Officer after her visit to discuss my plans.
I complained this was a tad underhand as my request to discuss planning was in good faith, the response was "Ah! but if we had advised you of our thoughts on the trees, you would have chopped them down""!!
Of course, this is absolutely right and the bast**ds have got one over on me BUT beware, if you have dreams of developing a piece of land in order to create a contribution to a boat (as I was) or similar - DON'T, whatever you do, call the Planning Office until you have chopped the bl**dy trees down!!!
I used to have a sense of fair play and a reasonable level of integrity. Bo**ocks to that!!
By the way, I am only livid because I've cocked up!!

Roundup on the trees, then they will die naturally and have to be removed, I didn`t say this!

Or they need to come down sharpish because otherwise some fooling around child might have got hurt..............and the tree chap happened to be passing by. Of course the fact that the boat wanted the space was completely unrelated.

A wooded plot next to our house was refused planning for a house, a local wide boy bought the plot on the understanding that he will get planning. over a weekend ringed the trees which had a presivation order, the trees were taken down permission was granted house built now up for slale for £400k plus.

Chop them down, pay the fine which could be 2k this is nothing when the house can be sold for £400k

good luck

This happened to a friend of mine. Monstrous tree in his front garden, that had already dropped one branch on someone elses car.

He spoke to his neighbours and they all agreed to its removal, so he organised it. A few days before it was due to be cut down and it had a tree preservation order slapped on it. He appealed the order, it was turned down because it was felt the tree contributed to the overall environment. Just looked bloody lethal to me.

A few months later, lightening hit it causing quite a bit of damage to both the tree and my friends car. At least the tree had to be removed.

So if you fancy removing a tree, just do it - don't ask *anyone*.

I have a problem tree behind my house on the other side of my fence in a field owned by a neighbour. Take it that I have asked for it to be removed but the answer was negative. What does "round up" and "ringed" mean and is it something I can do to kill the tree off. It's a an Ash which is one Englands largest trees and is only 10 yrs old!!!
Thanks.

Peter.

Quite right too, my Grandparents lived in the same house since they were married, 63 years, lovely green outlook, not over looked. Greedy B bought the house next door, put a 5 bed house in the garden chopping 2 100+ year old trees in the process, now he looks onto a brick wall, he tried to complain but the developer had all the answers, I hope the bloody thing falls down.

Re: There is a product

called SBK that has a funny effect on trees. I once had a problem with a few trees. I fed the SBK & the trees suddenly lost all their leaves & looked quite unwell.

Roundup is a brand name for glyphosate weedkiller. It has to be applied to leafy growth and is inactivated when it contacts the soil. I'd be surprised if you could kill a decent sized tree with it. Amazingly, still seems to be available to 'amateurs'! (not much else is these days).

Sodium Chlorate watered into the ground is pretty effective ... but nothing will grow there for quite a few years.

As far as I'm aware, 'ringed' refers to removing a strip of bark from around the trunk ... usually done to fruit trees to encourage fruiting. Perhaps it has another meaning?

Antifouling?
