Hythe Marina Residential

Good luck getting a berth in a marina in Lymington!

Not sure why Ringwood is a problem? If you live outside of the New Forest then Lyndhurst is a bottleneck getting in and out but you can go via Beaulieu instead.
You don’t even have to go through Beaulieu , take Ricket Lane off the A326 takes you through the Forest and skirts around the side of the village , it is further though than taking the Lindhurst route .
As for Hythe it’s a Town I’ve been associated with for 25 years , I’ve watched it decline over the years , the marina too , the shops and bars are crippled with extortionate fees from MDL so never seem to last long,I only ever found one decent pub in the town , the food prices were stupid .
As for the lock yes it’s a pain , best plan your time around free flow as per Port Solent can be a 2 hour wait bobbing around outside , been there never again .

Yes Ringwood was just illustrative of the traffic issues but maybe Lyndhurst is more apt. I didn’t know there was a shortage of space in Lym marinas -always seems plenty of space compared to some other location we visit apart from say ocean village maybe.

@SailingDog good point, although we are probably looking at a 9m MF style so I think we should be OK. If we were going with our original thoughts of a trawler style then I doubt we would fit.

@MikeB. thanks for the links to Christchurch, these hadn't come up on my previous searches. It looks like ones with moorings might be a bit pricey for us but i will go do some research (y)

Maybe I should start a thread title waterside property with moorings less than £600k but i don't think I would get many replies:p:p

Cheers,

MM

Is there not an agent called waterside properties who might have something known about but not on books which might be another source of info .? I’m told that notwithstanding my reservations about Poole as a place there are properties with boat houses but might be just for rib sized boats not your jeanneau type of day fishing boat maybe.

We looked at Hythe but were put off by a friend who was very involved with the Dibbden Container port application. While it was turned down he said that he felt that it would come around again soon and that we should be aware that this might be a possibility.

My daughter is searching for a new property having sold STC and many property agents are quite disappointing sadly and there seems a real shortage of property currently .Good luck with your hunt . You could just buy a flat and a Nimbus?

That reminds me didn't the plans for the electricity place get approved, I appreciate its quite a bit down river, but could impact while construction is going on.

Yes, interesting stuff happening around there.

@SailingDog @MikeB. @SpottyDog5 We were aware of Fawley, it is mentioned in a lot of the local planning info. I am thinking the impact on Hythe Marina will be minimal apart from increases in traffic as it is quite a long way away. Also the local council are using it as a reason to petition funding to reopen the railway to passenger traffic so it might have an upside.

If they did build it actually looks like a really cool place to live but by the time its finished we will probably be on Zimmer frameso_O

@thejonesey Dibden port is more uncertain. I can defo see ABP re-applying for planning given our new status as an "independent trading nation" (no political diversions of this thread pleeeeaaaaassseee :p ) as this would probably be supported by current govt policy. Last news was 2016 that I can see when the then Chancellor - Hammond, visited and made positive noises.

The biggest issue would be if it was muted you would have a minimum 2 year planning cycle then probably a 5 year build cycle. once it is done I think it would have minimal effect on property prices and quality of life from looking at the original planning in 2002, but it is the disruption whilst you are getting to that stage......

@ashtead The market is definitely strange, we are finding that anything that is "really nice" moves instantly, we have been following property on the IoW, locally and in Scotland and nice stuff goes under offer within 1 week of listing - literally. Properties that don't fit that category tend to sit for a while until the right buyer comes along, or sit forever.......

There is a real shortage of stock ATM partly due to time of year anyway, but also lockdown 2 (or is it 3 now?) that is why our plan is move into temporary, put the money in the bank and when we see something we want - swoop. hence doing all our research now. And yes we did seriously consider buying a decent 40ft trawler and living on it - that was defo in contention at one point;)

Definitely considerations worth thinking about though.

cheers,

TC

Interesting to see that there appear to be three of what must be the largest properties at Hythe currently on the market at around £1.5m (if Rightmove is up to date). Not sure if that is anything other than coincidence but there can’t be that many of that size in the marina.

Yes, and one of these has been on since lockdown 1 - its actually on with 2 agents so I think there are only 2 houses, just one of them listed twice :p

Cheers,
