I'm considering making an offer on a 265 (bilge) but before I do does anyone know how well they take to drying out.
We're based on the Hamble (Universal) so it's quite soft so will eventually make a well for itself up the the hull. Will the rudder & prop be ok?

If you are that concerned contact Huner Boats at Hamble Point Marina, that is one of the benifits of bilge keels being able to dry out, we have a Ranger and it has been dried out with no problems.

I have sent you a PM.

I have a Horizon 26 which I used on a drying mooring ( soft mud ) in the Bristol Channel for 5 years. Rudder / prop etc - never a problem, although the boat never really sank in to prop level as even if the keels went fully in, and the boat sat on its belly, the prop was still visable above the mud.

I have never owned a Hunter but bilge keelers are usually designed with drying out in mind.

Have a poke around your drying out spot with a long pole to make sure nothing is lurking below the surface.

A phone call to hunters will I am sure give you the green light.

My Ranger 265 sits comfotably in the mud in a half tide marina on the Blackwater with the keels fully immersed,as is the prop.I usually clamp the tiller in a central position.Hunters are solidly built and although not the fastest of boats are very foregiving and stable.
