I doubt the boat pointed better than 50 degrees anyway, maybe the sails weren’t the limiting factor. But what was the shape of the sail like when set? All that needlework counts for nothing if the sail does not do its job.
Is the trimming line/sheet(?) made of 19th century dyneema? Visually looks like a 8mm hemp sheet on a 500sqm sailIs he as good as this one from the 19thC ?

It just turned up on Facebook, and, being FB I have no chance of finding it again I’m afraid. That's a beautiful bit of work. Never mind my sailmaker... I want to be able to do that myself!
Where did you find this lovely picture?
Pretty and no doubt fit for the job.Is he as good as this one from the 19thC ?

You can if you do an image search and find, for instance: www.facebook.com/photo.php...It just turned up on Facebook, and, being FB I have no chance of finding it again I’m afraid.
Probably Hemp. And getting that Raw Hide to close fit the Cringle wasn't easy either. They used to chuck it in hot water to soften it up, but still needed skill to fit it.Pretty and no doubt fit for the job.
Twine - sisal ?
