I did a round the Island race on sigma 33 with the chap that played Tom Howard, lovely fella, hopeless on a boat.
You were right. It was buried in an advanced setting in an illogical place. It was set to auto. Now set to 16:9 it displays properly broadcast 4:3 shows properly (with the black bars) rather than knowing better and mucking it up!FYI, mine has the option to Auto or manually adjust aspect ratio, a dedicated button on the remote, maybe you have one or it is more convoluted through the menu.
Sadly died of a heart attack on set part way through series 5 at 49 years. Producers had to hurriedly rewrite the script.I did a round the Island race on sigma 33 with the chap that played Tom Howard, lovely fella, hopeless on a boat.
And still married to the lady who played Jan Howard. In other news, Stephen Yardley who played Ken is 79 today !
A COVID casualty I'm afraid. The Floating restaurant in the Elephant boat yard has at the back of the seating area the original sign for the Mermaid Boat yard if your ever passing and the food was good the last time we were there.
I moved that restaurant (which was the old Itchen ferry) from deacons to elephant a few years back. I was in Deacons with Nick the yard manager and he asked for a hand. Used a little workboat with an outboard. Lots and lots of revs, slack tide and furious pushing from various angles! It was huge compared with our little boat. The Floating restaurant in the Elephant boat yard has at the back of the seating area the original sign for the Mermaid Boat yard if your ever passing and the food was good the last time we were there.

No idea I never actually ate there - I don’t know why just didn’t get round to it.Thats a shame quite quirky and good food
Yes it wasnt small, So what has happened to it since its closed, do you know ?
Perhaps Nick and his outboard could get a contract to run the Cowes chain ferry? Sounds like would do a much better jobI moved that restaurant (which was the old Itchen ferry) from deacons to elephant a few years back. I remember that. It was during some downtime between filming. Seemed old when I was a kid but now it's no age at all..Sadly died of a heart attack on set part way through series 5 at 49 years. Producers had to hurriedly rewrite the script.

I was an apprentice for Chris Coleman at Quay Marine at the time. Filming was always done on a Sunday at the yard and the traffic was stopped on the A27 on evey take. Ken masters character was based on Chris Collman . Chris's Sealine dealership made him alot of money, as Sealine were selling like hot cakes from the publicity of the series.Chris Coleman who owned Quay Marine at the time was not a million miles off Ken !
There was a recent Twitter appreciation club for the series last time it ran. Ken and his wife Jan ( married in true life!) contributed here and there.
