Howards Way

Seem to remember thinking Howard’s Way started as a good idea, but all got a bit silly with the boat stuff rapidly getting pushed into the background in favour of generic dysfunctional intrigues.

Thanks to this post, I've started watching Howards Way again. I was a bit young to remember it first time round, but I do always remember the end credits with the Sealine zipping around the yacht.
Anyone know what series these end credits start to appear ?

Some yachts do actually have a device called a trim tab but it’s and vertically mounted foil on the trailing edge of the keel. It is usually adjustable at the helm and is designed to make the boat sail closer to the wind, upwind.
Some of the old 12 metre Americas Cup boats had them
I believe that they are no longer viable under various rules

We lived in Yorkshire in the 80s and it was a regular in our house as both Mum and Dad were based in Pompey and spent their courting years in many of the locations the filming took place.

The Floating restaurant in the Elephant boat yard has at the back of the seating area the original sign for the Mermaid Boat yard if your ever passing and the food was good the last time we were there.

The jazzy end credits started in season 3. "Always There" the romantic sounding ending was for the first two seasons...

Holy cow. I have vague memories of it being on while I lay on the carpet playing and avoiding being sent to bed, but it's a remarkable artifact. Nasty Ken strutting about in a double-breasted blazer in the chandlery might as well be a John & Peter sketch from Fry & Laurie.

One critic said of Toms character "He had all the animation of a plank" and thank god no one has mentioned Triangle !!!!
I thought he fitted the cast well. They were certainly a mixed bag. The only two that on recent watching that tended to irritate me were Abby and Leo. Abby because she could turn mineral water into sour milk and Leo because for about 4 seasons he seemed to look continually confused and had the backbone of a jellyfish. But he toughened up a bit later. You had to love it a little. All the dramatic exits and self-righteous poses.
On a slightly more serious note, the marinas and boatyards still had a bit of 'down to earth' charm about them. Most hadn't become these clinical monsters of today. And of course a huge boat then would probably now be called a compact starter boat!!

Must be on the Mobo forum - I saw the credits of some great shots of a Barracuda 45 yacht sailing well, then some little motorboat goes and crosses dangerously close ahead near the end :-)
