How to choose the first yacht

A bloke I know has ambitions to buy his own vessel one day. He has to get round his SWMBO first. These last few years, he's taken her on a flotilla holiday in Greece (or somesuch elsewhere in the Med.) and has been extremely careful to make sure she has enjoyed it. Whilst not cheap, I think it might be starting to pay off. She doesn't hate boats QUITE as much as she did...

That's taking things a bit far.
I have a decent arrangement. If it's nice and warm and sunny Mrs Lakesailor comes along. Otherwise I go on my own, occasionally with somebody else.
Seems to suit us both.
