How should I anchor?

Jumble Duck, in an earlier post on this thread, suggested (and I agree with his suggestion, with caveats) that my observation of a twitching anchor should result in the anchor setting more deeply (and developing more hold). My caveat is that the rode needs to be under tension, to induce a bit of forward motion of the anchor, and that there should not be excessive horsing, up and down movement of the chain. In most instances I can think of the rode will be under tension and most people try to find an anchorage where there is minimal chop. But your. Geem, observation that anchors did not drag, which I assume includes old gen anchors, after they had been allowed to 'settle' under a few days of 30 knots and then withstand 50 knot squall appears to support Jumble Duck's observation and conclusion.

I find the combination of comments, twitching, JDs conclusion and Geem's post compelling - though I'm not sure how this is of value to someone who does not enjoy the period necessary to have an old gen anchor settle.

I think Geems comment, which is a common observation, about the ease with which NG anchors can be set and reliably hold even more compelling - so I'm not going to revert to old gen!
