1998 aged 44.

I hadn't actually done a full RYA course prior to that, though I had just completed a 1-year Atlantic circuit in 1997. When David (younger than me) joined me in Nassau for our return trip to Spain, he asked what my qualification was, so I told him Day Skipper. His comment was "Best not tell my Mother about that."

(During the YM exam, the examiner was quizzing me about preparing the yacht to go long distance, as he planned to do the same, so I figured he would probably pass me.)

I got my dinghy 'C' class helm in 1965 and RYA Diver Coxswain in 74. On the strength of that I got an ICC (MoBo) to do the French Canals. I've not found the need for any other certificates to say that I can sail, so maybe i can't!
