Following other recent threads this might also be an interesting statistic.
Mine was launched in 1999, so will be 27 by the end of the season.

The sailing boat I built was constructed between 1996 and 2001 so 24 years
The motorboat was built 1969 so 56 years old.

Our Saltram Saga 40 is 1981 so 40 years old
Our Ovni 445 is 2010 so 16 years old
And they are wildly different boats but both great for what they were designed and built to do.

Do Saltrams age at a different rate to Ovnis?
Yup they age quite differently. The standard of modern gear is not as robust as the 70s and 80s, but modern gear is built for a different purpose (lightweight, cost, and ease of fitting, and generally not built to be repaired). As an example the original Goiot hatches on the Saltram are still going strong. The Lewmar hatches on the Ovni will not last 40 years.
Overall both boats are quality built boats of their time but the quality of available fittings has changed over the years and are not as robust. This affects how each vessel ages.

I would expect most modern yachts age in a different way to yachts of the 70's and 80's. A factor being the materials, type of construction, methods used and fittings used. We may also see vessels age (deteriorate) quicker now as maintenance gets more expensive and more restrictive controls in boatyards hinders DIY.
