How often do you change sail drive oil?

Hi, I've got the 120S saildrive. It's been in for 4 years now and the oil is still clear and clean, so I haven't changed it. I would like to know what sort of ATF Volvo now recommend as I have in mind to change the oil this spring. In my last saildrive (110S) I used gearbox oil around SAE80/90 without ill effects after I had trouble with water getting past the driveshaft seals.

Do not take the word of ill informed forumites ( I may well be one) Just do what i did - Contact Volspec at Tollesbury.
I went in to see them & they showed me a large wall chart with the updates they had at the time. They explained that Volvo had made a number of updates over the years & they were able to track the changes on the charts they had against models & manufacturing dates.
Latest instructions may be different again.
Forumites will quote what they have in their instructions or what some other "expert" has told them but really one would be better to just get the info from a recognised dealer & i would recommend Volspec every time

Unfortunately if you follow that logic they'd be no YBW forum surely!

In what way are Volspec going to be better than consulting the latest oil chart:

on Volvo Penta's own website as Yngmar suggests in #15

Then I can only suggest that Volspec must have left it to the tea lady to update as the 120S, B. C. D have always been engine oil. The only drive that has been ATF has been the 130 from 2005-2011 when it was changed to engine oil retrospectively. For existing drives the change was at next service, so mot imperative.

You were suggesting a spec sheet that was 7 years old
& i am sure that you have seen recommendations on this forum which you yourself have felt to be totally wrong ( as you are suggesting now for instance)
It costs a lot of money to repair a damaged saildrive & a phone call does not cost much in comparison. In my case i am in a position that I can call in & have a chat. I accept that this option is not available to others but - hey!! To each his own

So what changes have there been to the lubrication schedule in that time ? ...... None or they would have revsed the info on the website

I also change the O ring on the drain plug each year; it's also worth pointing out that a tightening torque is recommended in the manual. I cannot recall what it is off the top of my head, but it it quite low.

I'm feeling guilty now having never done this ^

I do put a couple of coats of Trilux around it though, hopefully keeps the water out and acts as Locktite.
