How much water?

1.5 litres per person is noted as a minimum (I asked this question a few weeks back on the liveaboard forum).

We have just done a two week cruise with 3 people on board. We used tank water for cooking and cleaning and then used an extra 5 litres of water per day for drinking between the 3 of us. I would estimate for 3 people we used a total of around 10 litres of water per day (half bottled half tank).

Hope this helps

IIRC it's a tradition on boats to drink beer rather than water anyway. Comes from the days where the fresh water was cloudier than the beer.......

If you can't get rum, that is.

How much drinking water is it recommended we carry per person per 24hours when on passage? One of you seasoned sailors will know this I am sure. Thanks.

1ltr per person per day for drinking is the absolute minimum but only if you have shelter and water for other purposes, also having your drinking water split up into either two tanks or tank and bottles is a good plan.

Usage for tea/washing up and washing is a separate consideration.

Wikepedia has a lengthy article that states a loss rate of 3ltrs per day.
