I despair

I do know smeone who bought a boat in a DEA auction. An Edgewater 26 with 2 yamaha 250 2 strokes. The fastest I’ve ever travelled on water. It would do over 70kn apparently. Though you needed a mortgage for the fuel.

And go further before running out of energy/battery.

A decent rowing eight in good conditions (no wind/waves/current) will average over 12 knots over a standard 2000m race course.

Unless the plug oiled up. In which case, you’ll get more exercise than a rower, on the start rope. Meanwhile, the electric outboard will silently potter away to the moorings, admiring the bird life on the way. Electrics ain’t quick, but they always start. My wife loves ours.

511.11 km/h (317.59 mph) was achieved by Australian Ken Warby in the Spirit of Australia in 1978.
He, and his son, are still planning to set a new record, in an optimized boat of similar design.

Admittedly, 317 mph is “trying hard enough”. That said, my early Torqeedo will top 250 mph with three PP9’s gaffa taped to the battery pack and wired in series.

I was in conversation with two Romanian guys on Wednesday, they were admiring one of our work ribs, it has twin mercury 220hps. They say they have 4 outboards on their ribs back home usually. I don't know why, two is fine.

2.5hp are for pussys. Mine were full on unrestricted 3.5 hp
