How many of you sail throughout the winter season?

We cruise full time. Summer is nicer, but we are lucky to have a pilot house and good diesel heater so winter is no great hardship.

It is a shame more boats don’t take advantage. Winter does have its own appeal. The last boat that shared an anchorage with us was many months ago so if this thread encourages a few more, there is no danger of overcrowding :).

Still sailing, but more interruptions due to wrong weather. It's expensive waiting a week for fair weather, if you are in a random marina on visitors' rates, although discounts, reduced prices and generous acts, like turning a blind eye to the bowsprit, are common this time of year.
But it can be magical, LT to Harwich a week ago was freezing, but a bright sunny day with light wind, I met hundreds of curious friendly seals, (but no yachts for some odd reason :) )

Me! Struggling to deal with all the other boats around me, and that terrible sunset is just pants... ;)

I just missed the two glorious days here this weekend, I initially thought because last weekend I had stupidly left the heating on for four days with all of the batteries ganged together and little wind to spin the generator, thereby flattening all ~600Ah of the batteries.

I went out on Thursday after using a power pack to start the motor and an hour into the trip the alternator packed up, having been asked to work for a living for a change. When removing the alternator I observed that the bilge pump had ingested some debris, stopped and melted, despite being underwater. Thus the flat batteries. It never rains...

I sail mostly in the winter, because I have the opportunity to play with the boat and it is too cold to want to work on her outsides, which I do instead in the warmer months when it is howling. A water pump rebuild and a new shaft seal are on the long list.

I know how that list feels.....we have a plan to take ours out next winter and the list reads like a new boat :D

We are still popping out for short sails and I wonder how many forum members sail throughout a winter season?

Always have.
First on Enterprises in the Bristol Channel. Then cruiser racing there, smashing ice on puddles in the cockpit.
Just leisure boating now and enjoying the comforts of a mobo, but I still enjoy a sail when I get the chance. Did so about 2 weeks ago, a cheeky after work sail in the dark.
Was out on the mobo yesterday and it was glorious.
Boat costs the same to keep in the winter, it’s such a shame to miss out.

I have some climbing or rambling roses that are still flowering and budding, is this normal for December ?

If it's not normal then I suppose I should be out there.
