It's 15 minutes from my marina to the Shuttle terminal, then 35 minutes on Le Shuttle, £6 for a car and five on a special afternoon offer recently /forums/images/icons/wink.gif Saves boat hours /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

PM was to me

It has subsequently been pointed out to me by other forum users that Depsol's response was not entirely unprovoked.

Happy1, you have been previously been warned about picking away at other forum users -- we have covered this ground privately and I am expecting you to stick to your agreements please.

Well I do up to 120 hours pa. Reading through all this I really think you should stay with what you got for a little longer. I used to own a 16ft boat that could do 45-50mph for nearly 10years and then decided one day, no more tralier boating, no more wetsuits, no more restricted range etc and sold it. I now have a 25ft boat with a Diesel with a max speed of 30knots(well more 28/29). I can now enjoy cruising further, not worried being in a F3 and will boat more often in bad weather and spend many weekends staying at marinas, harbours, rivers etc. My wife now enjoys it so much she tries to convince me of upgrading - but like you worry about the costs (maintenance/running not purchase), so I think I'll stick with my boat for a few more years and wear a blind fold with the S28 opposite me up for sale.

I sure do enjoy not filling up every weekend and having a range up to 200miles+ (depending on conditions).

Oh and by the way, Diesel can be more risky than petrol - if the boats on fire and a diesel the fuel tank will more likely explode than a petrol one (providing no petrol leaks!).

RM.

Happy1 - big boats are driven slow! :) 42 knots in a 27 footer or bigger - well - unless it's a cigarette - will be very uncomfortable!

Cinnamon's moored at Teddington - a full 3 miles from home & office, and on SWMBOs way home from work. Spent every evening this week on board - travel a full couple of miles, find somewhere to tie/anchor and spend the rest of the evening just eating, drinking, partying and enjoying living a dream... and, of course, laughing at the poor people on the bank! Engine hours? Very few... Twin Diesel 165s pottering along at tickover for 20 minutes? negligible... Enjoyment? Massive! Priceless! Esp when friends join us!

Keep it big, keep it slow and keep it local!

H

Sounds great /forums/images/icons/wink.gif I am a bit further from my boat 40 mins, but would miss it if it was 2.5 hrs away. I guess with your usage a petrol would give just as much satisfaction, and be better value for money, purchase wise. I am still researching but will bear what you say in mind.

Cheers,

You seem to be similar to me, we are going up in stages so that if we reach a point that we feel is comfortable for our needs we will stop, not quite there yet, but plenty of time, plus enjoying every minute of my boat /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

287 hrs in 14 months. Gotta be DIESEL. The only problem with doing lots of hours in a new boat is.... 3 Volvo/Peters mega buck services in one year to keep up the warranty.

Normally it would be 100 hours!

Pete

Just topped up my tanks last night, 25 liters each tank, I wasn’t sure how much was in so I like to top up!

17p a liter! The guys said pay me next time!!! Compare this to petrol !

I just gave him the latest copy of MBY instead !

Tom, you are lucky to be able to get access behind your house for the fuel delivery straight to the boat, perhaps I should get a diesel and visit you on delivery days /forums/images/icons/wink.gif That must be some of the cheapest about down here!

I don’t think luck comes into it!

You always have a choice, We don’t have to have boats, or do we?

You are more then welcome to come down and refuel!

I am sure the unleaded is cheap down here too 72 p By Tesco!

the only problem with petrol is that you can't get it quayside! Last boat we had was a Bayliner Ciera 27 - on the trailer and into the local Jet station. Can't do that with anything bigger. Only petrol I know of around here is at Shepperton - 2 hours and four locks upstream. Petrol is a mission rather than a means to an end! And LPG isn't allowed on the river 'cos the BSS (Beaucratic Salvation System) doesn't allow it.
